This pole-mounted bat box is at Martin Nature Center, placed in an open field near the pond The Nature Center's According to this news article, assistant naturalist Steve Thompson said he fields calls every week from Oklahoma City residents seeking designs for bat houses to place in yards. Thompson advises that bat boxes mounted on poles or on the sides of buildings are preferred to those set in trees, and that bat boxes should be no more than a quarter-mile from a pond or stream, and this bat box fulfills both of those requirements.
