The Richardson Family
The Richardson family settled in March Township in 1820,
following Frederick and Ann Richardson's emigration from Tipperary
Ireland. By the late 1860's each of their six sons had acquired a farm close
to the original homestead. In addition to farming, Frederick became
involved in local politics, serving as Councillor and Reeve of the Township.
After the great fire of 1870, Frederick and Ann's fifth son, Thomas Richardson
rebuilt the existing stone farm house. The last remaining home on the
Richardson farmland, it housed four generations of the family between 1871 and 2008.
The Richardson Farmhouse stands as an enduring reminder of the farming
character of March Township in the 19th and 20th centuries.
