15th century pews with carved bench ends in St Mary's church, East Brent.
Carved in oak, those in the nave with poppy heads were brought from Glastonbury after John Selwood (vicar from 1467 to 1493) had refurbished the Abbey. One can find the initials of John Selwood on several of the pews nearest the pulpit. The pews were carved and decorated in the finest tradition, some have the arms of Glastonbury inscribed on them.
Another pew shows the ‘Pelican in her Piety’, piercing her breast so that her blood may save her fledglings in the nest.
