"It is an Arab castle delimited by the remains of the original walled enclosure inside the one that exists today. This definitive exterior enclosure crossed the old castle and dates back to the year of the World War in and sits on a small hill that makes access difficult. You can see the remains of the Arab wall. It has a wide moat and a drawbridge. Throughout the building, towers of different shapes proliferate. Some parts of the building are topped with pyramidal battlements. Inside, it is demolished. It is a spectacular castle, from which you can see beautiful views of Almuñécar."

Along with the moat, the towers are the most characteristic defensive element. In the northeast part we find a spier tower of Arab reference. The Polvorín tower and the Alcaide tower are two examples of these towered structures.

The material that prevails throughout this impressive defensive work is stone and rammed earth; However, although sparsely, brick is also used. The construction system will be masonry, where the stone barely appears carved. Brick is used for the most important areas of the building and has clear Arab connotations.

Worthy of mention is the access flanked by two cubic structures that served as defense. Also, it should be noted that a part of the land went into the sea and a series of defense works were built here; These works contained artillery pieces. The construction can be dated to modern times.

Almuñécar (Province of Granada, Spain): Castle of San Miguel
The first historical news dates back to Greek times and then to Carthaginian times, receiving the name Manoba Sexi Armun. Its most relevant events came from the hands of the Arabs. Under Charles I, an important construction work was carried out since, at the request of this king, a series of towers and a moat were built. With the s. XIX and the War of Independence, the building suffered great damage and was dismantled by the French, who occupied it in 1812. The castle would be liberated after a series of bombardments from the sea, perpetrated by the English fleet.

Later, it became the local cemetery. It was declared a National Monument in 1931. Restoration work began to return it to its old image. Currently, it is municipal property and houses the city's Historical Museum".
