A holy sepulcher with the image of Jesus Christ inside, made of wood, with great carving work that seems not to have finished due to the fact that painting has not yet begun.

"Nothing is known about the first Church of Almuñécar but, as was normal after the conquest, it was established in the main mosque taken from the Muslims, conditioned and designated for the new cult.
The current temple is a significant work of Granada art, due to the chronology and characteristics of its construction. Its interest and importance lies in the fact that it is the first to be built in the province of Granada, in the baroque style.

Until then, the parish churches in the towns had been built, the most important ones in the Gothic or Renaissance style, and the lesser pretensions in the Mudejar style. However, in Almuñécar the new construction trend was taken, without a doubt, for the greater scope of the project, which contrasts with a population at the time that did not reach a thousand inhabitants.

We have little news of its construction but it is significant enough. The master bricklayer Jerónimo Hernández, a resident of Almuñécar, carried out the work, and his intervention was documented in the years 1595 to 1597. In any case, through letters of reply to the archbishop Don Pedro de Castro, who asked him to take charge of the expansion of The church of Motril refuses to do so because they owe money for the work of the church of Almuñécar, deducing that all of it would be their responsibility. The completion of its structure is marked on the pediment that finishes the façade: 1600."
