A stationary unmarked caboose in Knoxville, Tennessee (Knox County). The caboose serves as an office, storage area, and equipment shed. It is located at the entrance gate of JRC Company; a railroad contractor. The caboose was once used as a check-in/out for the gate.

This is an extended vision cupola “standard” steel caboose. There are no markings currently visible on the caboose. According to company employees and railroad archival pictures, this is a St. Louis-San Francisco Railway (SLSF) caboose. SLSF is also known as the Frisco Lines. The floor of the caboose is nearly flush to the ground since the caboose cabin sits on concrete blocks (not trucks). It is bordered by railroad ties. A wooden superstructure has been built on top of the caboose’s roof giving the appearance of a large box perched on the caboose. A lean-to roof extends from the box about twice the width of the caboose. The original roof and cupola of the caboose were not removed or modified. The inside of superstructure is an empty space and not connected to the inside of the caboose.

The inside of the caboose has been extensively remodeled into two office spaces with a half bath between them. It has been equipped with city electricity, heating/AC, phone line, and plumbing.

This is a privately owned caboose on the property of a fenced in business. It is accessible only with the permission of the business.
