[FR] La maison d'à côté passe pour être celle ou naquit en 1421 Jean Balue, le célèbre Cardinal La Balue. II fut très jeune Cardinal d'Angers l'un des et devint principaux conseillers de Louis XI. Mais, le roi l'accusant de trahison pour l'avoir entraîné à céder aux exigences de son cousin et ennemi Charles le Téméraire, le fit jeter en prison à Loches où il passera 11 ans, peut- être dans une des célèbres cages de fer, dites fillettes>>> dont on le dit l'inventeur, mais rien n'est sûr.

À sa sortie de prison, il continuera de conseiller Louis XI, menant une brillante carrière diplomatique auprès du pape et comblé d'honneurs par les papes successifs jusqu'à sa mort en 1491 à Ancône en Italie.

Quant à l'élégant personnage central sur la photo, il s'agit d'Aimé Octobre, né à Angles en 1868, éminent sculpteur, lauréat du prix de Rome en 1893, auteur de monuments aux morts dont celui d'Angles, de Châtellerault, Montmorillon, Poitiers, Lusignan, La Couarde sur Mer, mais aussi de superbes bustes, statues et œuvres décoratives dans la Vienne et départements voisins Il est décédé en 1943.

[EN] The house next door is believed to be the birthplace of Jean Balue, the famous Cardinal La Balue, in 1421. As a young man, he was Cardinal of Angers, one of Louis XI's principal advisors. As for the elegant central figure in the photo, he is Aimé Octobre, born in Angles in 1868, an eminent sculptor, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1893, author of war memorials including those in Angles, Châtellerault, Montmorillon, Poitiers, Lusignan and La Couarde sur Mer, as well as superb busts, statues and decorative works in the Vienne and neighbouring departments. He died in 1943.
