Waseca was platted in 1867 when the railroad was built though here. Within a short time, it was a major train shipping hub for wheat, leading to rapid town growth. In 1967, the town was majorly damaged by tornados.
Today, the population of the city sits at 9,229 as of 2020 and serves as the Waseca County seat.
