In the early 1970s, Canada Post began replacing their current set of definitive postage stamps, known as the Centennial issue, with a new set featuring caricatures of famous Canadians (and Queen Elizabeth II of course) on the low values, various landscapes on the medium values and a couple of cityscapes on the high values. The $1.00 value showed a view of Vancouver from the area near Kitsilano Beach with several barnacle-covered rocks in the foreground. It was in service for about seven years until replaced by one featuring the Bay of Fundy.
