"El castillo de Almenara ha evolucionado a lo largo del tiempo, pero las primeras referencias escritas datan del siglo XI, durante la taifa de Tortosa. Sin embargo, se han encontrado restos de construcciones romanas e íberas en la ladera norte, lo que indica un origen aún más antiguo para esta fortificación. En 1238, el rey Jaime I conquistó el castillo y lo incorporó al Reino de Aragón.
La fortaleza se desarrolla longitudinalmente de este a oeste, y consta de tres recintos. En la parte más alta de la colina se encuentra el castillo propiamente dicho, aunque en la actualidad se encuentra en estado de deterioro. En el área anterior al castillo se ubicaba el albacar, donde se encontraban elementos importantes como el aljibe, que todavía es visible, y la mezquita.
El castillo de Almenara presenta una planta irregular dispersa, típica de los castillos montañosos. A pesar de su estado ruinoso, se conserva parte del recinto exterior con defensas escalonadas y fuertes muros de contención. Las torres, especialmente las conocidas como L’Agüelet y L’Agüeleta, se encuentran en relativo buen estado de conservación.
El castillo de Almenara es una verdadera joya histórica y arquitectónica. Aunque se encuentra en ruinas, todavía permite apreciar elementos como las caballerizas, salones y otras estructuras interiores que suelen haber desaparecido en otros castillos. Su construcción se compone de tres recintos, cada uno con su propia función y características.
El patio central del castillo alberga cuatro recintos abovedados que rodean el aljibe. Es interesante observar que el aljibe está impermeabilizado con mortero rojo, una técnica típica de las construcciones árabes. Además, se han descubierto frisos renacentistas en la sala de yeserías, lo que demuestra la influencia de diferentes estilos arquitectónicos a lo largo de la historia del castillo."

Almenara Castle is a true historical and architectural gem. Although it is in ruins, it still allows you to see elements such as the stables, halls and other interior structures that have usually disappeared in other castles. The central courtyard of the castle houses four vaulted rooms that surround the cistern. It is interesting to note that the cistern is waterproofed with red mortar, a typical technique of Arab constructions.
