The first burials date from the early 1850s. This cemetery began as the burying ground for the local Wesleyan Methodist congregation. Originally, the Methodist church building was near the northeast corner of this cemetery. In 1925, the congregation became part of the new United Church of Canada denomination.
In the past, there was a bridge across the gully that runs through the center of the cemetery.
