The Moravian Museum of Bethlehem indeed offers a fascinating glimpse into the early history of the Bethlehem community. Located in the 1741 Gemeinhaus, the museum is part of Historic Moravian Bethlehem’s National Historic Landmark District1. The Gemeinhaus is notable for being the largest 18th-century log structure in continuous use in the United States, although there is nice vinyl siding on the exterior today.

The museum highlights the remarkable stories of Bethlehem’s founders, including their communal living arrangements, medicinal practices, missionary work, and progressive educational system1. The Moravians were known for their communal society, where everyone worked for the good of the community and received care from cradle to grave. This unique social structure is a significant part of what makes the museum’s history so compelling.

The Moravian Museum of Bethlehem includes the 1741 Gemeinhaus, the 1744 Single Sisters' House, the 1752 Apothecary, and the 1758 Nain-Schober House, the only remaining 18th-century residence for Christianized Native Americans in eastern Pennsylvania.

Tours are available and can visit the following structures:

1744/1752 Single Sisters’ House: This Moravian-built structure housed Bethlehem’s early Moravian community of single women. The 1744/1752 sections of the structure are open for tours.

1758 Nain-Schober House: The Nain-Schober House is the only building remaining in the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor built and lived in by Native Americans. Exhibits here tell the story of Moravian and Native American Relations in the 1740s.

1752 Apothecary: Peek into a pre-American Revolution–era pharmacy and explore the stories of how the early Moravian settlers treated ailments.
