"Journeys Kidsgrove is a celebration of Kidsgrove, made with and for the local community.
In 2021 Appetite and Canal & River Trust asked residents, families and school children across Kidsgrove what they loved about living in the area, how they use the canal, and their personal local highlights to help create a temporary artwork.
We asked the community to put their thoughts on a post card and return it through our postbox that popped up in the town centre. The community came back to us with wonderful feedback, stories and comments - from the friendliness of the area and the beautiful countryside to the joy of watching canal boats go by.
Using this inspiring feedback, artists at We are Culla were tasked to create two designs for a new mural that would be a bright, colourful statement about the area and help to connect the train station with the canal and the town. The two designs were circulated and the community and 301 people voted for their favourite.
This was the winner. We hope Journeys captures a little of what is special about Kidsgrove and encourages you to explore further.
Thank you to the community and young people at the King's Church of England Academy and Kidsgrove Secondary School who took part."
