This sign is in the Lewis and Clark Welcome Center off I-90 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. This visitor center has a great museum about Lewis and Clark and the history of the area. It is best known for the large Dignity statue outside!

The timeline is called "From Exploration to Statehood" and gives an overview of the years 1743 - 1889. In 1743, a pair of brothers from France explored the area, pre-dating Lewis and Clark. In 1889, South Dakota became a State.

This interpretive center is free to explore. It is open from 8 am - 5 pm daily and has oudoor picnic areas as well.
