"Castrelo de Miño officially inaugurated its recently remodelled Town Hall yesterday. In addition to the current Town Hall, numerous members of previous Town Halls from the democratic era participated in the event, as well as relatives and neighbours of the municipality, together with a group of schoolchildren from the local public school who presented a work on the dissemination and awareness of children's rights.
The Town Hall was subjected to a profound transformation. The redistribution of spaces has been carried out with the aim of improving the attention to residents, facilitating their access to the different departments. Thus, the ground floor houses those services most frequented by citizens such as customer service, the registry, the archive, social services and the Justice of the Peace Court, as well as an assembly hall that was previously lacking. The mayor of Castrelo, Xurxo Rodríguez Méndez, made it clear that this new space will not only be used for holding plenary sessions but also for meetings of associations and neighbourhood gatherings.
Distribution
The first floor has magnificent views of the river Miño and the vineyards at the back of the building. There are the boardroom, secretariat, mayor's office, urban planning and treasury, among other departments, which can be accessed by elevator.
Xurxo Rodríguez stressed the importance of properly distributing the spaces, which were previously poorly used. In addition, he addressed the members of previous corporations, stating that "we want to remember all the mayors and councilors at this inauguration ceremony, because we are going beyond what remains of the works, the investments made and the services provided to the residents." The mayor referred to the great need to carry out this project, which was launched in 2010 to renovate a building built in the 1950s, which had only undergone a small work in the 1980s. At the same time, he highlighted the collaboration between two administrations to make its execution possible, in which 240,000 euros were invested, of which 80% was provided by the Xunta and the remaining 20% ??by the Castrelo de Miño Council itself.
For this reason, the event was also attended by the vice president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, who admitted that 2010 was the last year that a line of aid was established to undertake the works in those councils where it was necessary. "Here the cards are well invested," he said.
The wines
After the tour of the various municipal departments, admiring the views of the Miño, and the official ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to taste the wines of Castrelo de Miño, a municipality that forms part of the Ribeiro Denomination of Origin. According to Xurxo Rodríguez, it was the wineries in the area that offered their best brands to inaugurate the new Town Hall. The wines were accompanied by snacks prepared by a local bakery for the occasion and commissioned by the local authorities. "
