"The Garnelo de Montilla Museum is a palace house with a style characteristic of the stately mansions of the late 19th century. The house is structured on three floors high, with eight exhibition rooms. It is commonly known as the "House of Waters" because the water tanks that served to supply the city were located.

Its collection includes 180 works that provide a broadly representative tour of the different stages and multiple facets of the artist, so that the viewer can appreciate the dimension and exceptional value of the painter's production. Drawings, watercolors and, above all, oil paintings have been included, also addressing a wide variety of themes, where we can highlight works such as Dolorosa, El Pedagogo, Gitanas or Capea en las Navas del Marqués, among others.

José Garnelo y Alda (1866-1944) was a fundamental figure in painting in a period of profound changes at all levels, which were decisive for the incorporation of the avant-garde concept. "He was an outstanding teacher, to the point of being named Crown Painter in his time."
