This two-story brick building, originally constructed circa 1878, has undergone significant changes over the years. The first story, once gutted by a 1904 fire, was later restored and features a plaster and glass facade divided into two commercial spaces. The second story, with its painted brick facade, was historically used for hotel rooms but has remained unoccupied due to structural damage from the 1975 earthquake. While repairs in 1979 addressed issues such as first-floor framing, roof truss reinforcement, exterior masonry patching, and partial rear wall reconstruction, further restoration is still needed. As part of an effort to restore the building to its turn-of-the-century appearance, the owner plans to remove the large showcase windows added to the first story facade in 1920 and repair the second-floor frame to allow for future occupancy. Once completed, these renovations will help preserve the building’s historical character while ensuring its continued use.
