[FR] Jeanne d'Arc, dite « la Pucelle », née vers 1412 à Domrémy, village du duché de Barn (actuellement dans le département des Vosges en Lorraine), et morte sur le bûcher le 30 mai 1431 à Rouen, capitale du duché de Normandie alors possession anglaise, est une héroïne de l'histoire de France, cheffe de guerre et sainte de l'Église catholique, surnommée posthumément « la Pucelle d’Orléans ».

Jeanne d'Arc est béatifiée par un bref daté du 11 avril 1909 puis une cérémonie tenue le 18 avril 1909. Elle est ensuite canonisée le 16 mai 1920. Sa fête religieuse est fixée au 30 mai, jour anniversaire de sa mort.

La statue est une statue equestre en bronze, sculptée par Jules Déchin et inaugurée le 14 mai 1950 par Jacques Chaban-Delmas. Elle tient une épée dans sa main droite.

[EN] Joan of Arc, known as “La Pucelle”, was born around 1412 in Domrémy, a village in the Duchy of Barn (now in the Vosges department of Lorraine), and died at the stake on May 30, 1431 in Rouen, capital of the Duchy of Normandy, then an English possession. She was a heroine of French history, a war leader and a saint of the Catholic Church, posthumously nicknamed “La Pucelle d'Orléans”.

Joan of Arc was beatified by a writ dated April 11, 1909, followed by a ceremony on April 18, 1909. She was then canonized on May 16, 1920. Her religious feast day is May 30, the anniversary of her death.
