Discover a vibrant artwork transforming the space under the Karuah Bridge in Karuah, on Worimi Country. This mural, a project of the Karuah Progress Association, was created to inject life and colour into a previously uninspiring area. Renowned local artist Jordon Lucky was commissioned to create a piece that pays homage to the unique local environment.
The artwork beautifully depicts significant local flora and fauna, including the Black Swan, Kookaburra, Sacred King Fisher, Echidna, Superb Fairywren, and White-bellied Sea Eagle. Adding a cultural layer, the mural also features the Aboriginal place name "Garuwa." In a touching element signifying hope for the future, local school children have also left their mark on the painting.
The Karuah Progress Association extends their thanks to local Elders, Transport for NSW, Port Stephens Council, and the local community for their support in bringing this project to fruition, which was completed in December 2022. This mural is envisioned as the first step in activating public spaces and potentially creating a walking art trail showcasing the many elements that make Karuah home.
