"Tittel Oslo Havnelager - Langkaia 1, Handelsanlegg

Free trade warehouse built in 1916-20 with Bredo Berntsen as the executive architect. The construction was challenging both due to difficult ground conditions and the dimensions of the building. The building stands on piles driven nearly 20 meters into solid rock. At the time of construction, one of Northern Europe's largest buildings and the first in Norway with unplastered concrete facades. Initially, the building functioned as a warehouse for shipping, but after 60 years the need for this type of warehouse premises had already disappeared. Port activity had also mainly moved out of the city center and eventually to container traffic in Østhavna and Tjuvholmen. It was proposed to demolish the building, but through a large-scale reconstruction, the Port Warehouse was revived as a functional office building for financiers, media, shipowners and oil companies.

Both the historical port function and the new winning construction technique contribute to the building's high national value."
