Este es el escudo de la ciudad de Badajoz considerado el más antiguo que aún se conserva, y que lo podemos observar, hoy, sobre la puerta del edificio de la Galera, en los jardines del mismo nombre.

Debajo del escudo podemos observar una inscripción con el siguiente texto:

ES ......TECAMI
SEHIZOENELANOD

Podemos interpretarlo como: “ESTE CAMINO SE HIZO EN EL AÑO DE…”

Escudo tallado en mármol representando el emblema de la ciudad de Badajoz: el león rampante simboliza el reino que lo conquistó, y la columna de Hércules con el lema PLUS ULTRA ("más allá") es el símbolo personal del emperador Carlos V. El escudo se completaba con una inscripción en mármol (hoy perdida).



This is the coat of arms of the city of Badajoz, considered the oldest still preserved, and which we can see today above the door of the Galera building, in the gardens of the same name.

Below the coat of arms, we can see an inscription with the following text:

ES ......TECAMI
SEHIZOENELANOD

We can interpret it as: "THIS ROAD WAS MADE IN THE YEAR OF..."

Coat of arms carved in marble depicting the emblem of the city of Badajoz: the rampant lion symbolizes the kingdom that conquered it, and the Pillar of Hercules with the motto PLUS ULTRA ("beyond") is the personal symbol of Emperor Charles V. The coat of arms was completed with a marble inscription (now lost).

On a field of azure, a lion rampant gules and crowned gold, accompanied by two columns of silver, with the base and capital of the same enamel and surrounded by a gold ribbon charged with letters gules, "Plus Ultra", on the ground of green.
