About the location: Rensenpark
"Rensenpark is a park in the center of Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe . The park consists of the grounds of the former zoo Dierenpark Emmen . This zoo closed in 2015 , after which a new zoo was opened elsewhere in Emmen in early 2016. In June 2016, the old zoo was reopened as a city park by former zoo director Aleid Rensen . This park was first called 'Mensenpark' but in early 2018 it was renamed 'Rensenpark', after the Rensen couple."

About the person : Aleid Rensen Oosting
"Aleid Digna Rensen-Oosting is the daughter of Willem Oosting, the man who started the zoo in Emmen in 1935. When the number of visitors declined in the late 1960s, Jaap and Aleid took over. Under their leadership, the park expanded and became very successful.
The emphasis was on better accommodation for the animals and education. Under the leadership of the Rensen couple, the savannah was created and the Biochron was opened. On television The park also became better known because Rensen was a regular guest on the TV program Voor de vuist weg from 1971 onwards . She often brought special animals with her on the broadcasts.

After Rensen and her husband retired from the zoo in 1995, she remained active. Among other things, she was chairwoman of the Drentse Landschap. When she retired in 2006, she received the Drentse Erepenning.
In 2013 Aleid Rensen published her memoirs in the book The Disappeared Zoo . With this book she wants to keep the memory of the old zoo in the centre of Emmen alive. Jaap and Aleid find it terrible that the park is moving.
In June of this year, Rensen will appear in public once more. Together with her husband Jaap, she will symbolically open the old zoo as a city park."
