Reifferscheid Castle was one of the characteristic medieval hill-castles of the Eifel. Built on the spur of a ridge this type of castle provided optimal protection against aggressors.
Today's complex of castle ruin, outer bailey and fortified settlement clearly documents the change of this former residence. Owing to the lack of economic preconditions, no urban develop-ment took place here."
