"It is located in the southern part of the old town of Bruges and connects the Bakkersrei canal to the Bruges Beguinage on the west side. Begijnhof Street crosses the bridge. On the west side, the Beguinage Gate is the entrance to the Beguinage, which is closed at night. The Beguinage Museum is also located there.

The bridge was first mentioned in a document as early as 1297. At that time, the bridge was designed as a wooden bridge. In 1692, a new stone building was erected. The wrought iron railing was created in 1740 based on a design by W. de Potter. It is decorated with depictions of vines and grapes, which refers to the term also used for the Beguinage, the Vineyard Beguinage.

The bridge is designed as a three-part arch bridge made of limestone. A 19th-century cartouche bears the inscription ANNO 1776. There is also a bluestone boundary marker on the bridge.

De brug maakt deel uit van de monumentale zone van het Begijnhof en is eveneens al sinds de 14e eeuw in gebruik. In september 2009 werd de brug geklasseerd als bouwkundig erfgoed."
