The congregation was formed in 1857 and they had a church site about one mile south of this location. IN 1912 they moved here and built a new church, the church still standing, and then created this cemetery.
This cemetery does not have a specific sign, neither does the church. The name is taken from the cornerstone and the historical marker on site.

SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH
In 1857 Rev. A. Lange served the area German Lutherans. First church was erected 1859 one mile south of present building. Congregation was officially organized November 1861 and became a member of Missouri Synod. In 1863 first parsonage and school were built. A second church built in 1878. November 1912 church was relocated and present building was erected. The church celebrated it's centennial in 1961 and was remodeled and rededicated.
