Castoro de Oro Estate Winery is located on the Okanagan Highway south of Oliver "Canada's Wine Capital", and is known for its vineyards and wineries.
The desert-like conditions and ample sunshine, are ideal for grape ripening.
The area previously was planted primarily with apple and cherry orchards.
There are over 40 wineries in the Oliver and Osoyoos area, making it a major wine destination in British Columbia.
"Castoro de Oro" translates from Italian and Spanish as "Beaver of Gold". The phrase is a combination of "castoro" (beaver) and "de oro" (of gold). The winery, Castoro de Oro Estate Winery, uses this name to represent the historical significance of the beaver in Canada and the gold mining history of the Oliver.

You could call us ‘the little beaver that could’.
It was the prospect of oro – gold, which prompted the settlement of early Canada. As prospectors carved the mountainsides, one of nature’s most intelligent creatures, castoro – beaver, built dams, flooding and ultimately creating rich agricultural soil. The beaver’s ability to make changes to the landscape is secondary only to man. Canada recognizes this noble creature as the emblem of national sovereignty. The handcrafted Castoro de Oro Estate Wines reflect the natural flavours of our terroir and are a tribute to our country.
Our 8-acre Vineyard and Wine Shop is located in the Golden Mile grape-growing region of Oliver, BC. The Vineyard was planted in 1980-1981, which makes it one of the oldest in the area. Our vineyard’s location in the famed “Golden Mile” alluvial soil deposit and southeast aspect with excellent exposure to sunshine, results in full flavour and aroma development. The vineyard slope keeps the vines safe from late spring or early fall frost problems, allowing the grapes to ripen fully. The vines are planted at the foot of a mountain, which provides evening shade, resulting in a rapid cool-off during summer, which prevents the grape acids from dropping and results in a fine balance between ripe, sweet fruit and firm, clean acidity.
We’ve been around a while in the winery business. We started the winery in January of 2006, and opened our wine shop a few months later in April. We have seen a lot, done a lot, worked a lot and enjoyed a lot of wine. Family-owned, we are true vignerons – we make wine from grapes we grow. Simply, we are farmers who like to make good wine.
Our wine shop is open daily. Come by for a tasting of our wines, and leave with a few of your favourites. We’re located right off of highway 97 South, about halfway between Oliver and Osoyoos, B.C.

Our winery is accessible right off the highway – pull in for a taste of our latest selections. Enjoy a glass on the patio and take in the view of the valley. Our winery dog Walnut loves making new friends, but we ask that pets be kept on leash.
