"The current church stands on the foundations of an earlier church, which dates from between 1375 and 1400. The church was set on fire in 1489 (the time of the Hook and Cod Wars) by troops from Woerden (supporters of the Hook faction). The church was subsequently repaired. In 1547, the church was demolished due to dilapidation and rebuilt. This church was a cruciform church with a five-sided apse[1]. The church burned down on March 19, 1867; demolition and new construction began in 1869[2]. The cruciform church was replaced by a hall church[3].
During the restoration of the tower during the war, it became apparent that the south side of the church's foundation was in poor condition. Lowering the water level in the polders had eroded the heads of the piles, causing the church building to subside. On November 7, 1946, the church council decided to demolish the church and rebuild a new one. The last service in the old church building was held on September 28, 1947. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on June 25, 1948, and the rebuilt church was consecrated on July 1, 1949. The new church was built with stones salvaged from the Bezuidenhout district in The Hague, which had been destroyed by bombing during World War II. The current church is a wall-pillar church (with buttresses partially embedded in the walls) with a three-sided closed choir and was designed by Gijs van Hoogevest." Source: Wikipedid
