The bronze statue stands on a stone pedestal and is about 2 m tall.
A small boy sits at the feet of the bronze Adam, who is carrying a basket of pretzels in his arms, and the Brezel Adam strokes his head.
------

"Who was the little man who is still remembered by many in Kaiserlautern today and whom the Kaiserslautern artist Werner Bern placed on a bronze plinth in 1977?
Originally, Brezel Adam came from Ramberg in the Southern Palatinate. His name was Adam Schmadel (1892-1969). He was just one year old when he moved to Kaiserslautern with his family. His father had found work in a factory there. As a teenager, Adam also worked in a factory, but after the First World War (1914-1918) he became unemployed like many others. So he started selling pretzels at the age of 27.
With his dry Palatinate humour, everyone in the city soon knew him. The way he addressed his customers was also typically Palatine: he always said ‘du’, no matter who he was talking to.
The Brezel Adam characterised Kaiserslautern's cityscape for over 50 years. The press reported on him time and again and on his 75th birthday, the Lord Mayor sent him two bottles of wine and a bouquet of flowers. Adam died in December 1969 at the age of 77."
