"The Morhange Lutheran Church is a former garrison church, located on Rue de Montmorency in Morhange, Lorraine. Built during the German annexation, the building is currently the subject of an ambitious restoration project.

Historical Context
There were very few Protestants in Morhange before the 19th century. It wasn't until 1876 that the first public Protestant service brought together the residents of Grostenquin and Morhange. In 1890, the establishment of the German garrison increased the population sevenfold. Morhange enjoyed a prosperous period. In 1892, the Protestant parish naturally became a garrison parish.

Construction and Development
The church was built between 1893 and 1895. It was intended for German civilians and military personnel of the Lutheran faith. Built of pink sandstone, the imposing building dominates the city and the former German barracks. The choice of material and the Rhenish Romanesque Revival style, fashionable after 1871, lend the building nobility and elegance. The church, dominated by its central tower on the facade, consists of a simple nave. The nave, flanked by four small turrets, ends in a small apse. The moldings, with round arches and arcades, are relatively simple.

Successive Uses
The temple served both military and civilian purposes. It did not suffer from the battles between 1914 and 1918, but was hit in 1940, before being seriously damaged in November 1944, by Allied artillery fire, shortly before the liberation of November 15, 1944. Weakened by these bombardments, the church had to be closed in September 2003. The project to restore this endangered building was selected by the Heritage Foundation. The work on the masonry, the framework and the roof, aimed at making the building safe, will later allow the creation of a cultural and artistic space open to all."
