Although the population of Dover, England, is about 28,000, its surrounding urban area is twice that size, and Dover, DE is actually slightly larger with a population of about 32,000 but is better known as it is the capital city of Delaware. Dover, NH, has a population of about 27,000 and is part of the seacoast area of New Hampshire which includes Rochester and the larger port city of Portsmouth.
In 1792 Dover was actually the capital of New Hampshire.
