Salem Oregon is home to
Oregon State Capitol Building. On April 25th in 1935 fire destroyed the ornate domed capitol building of The State of Oregon. In 1938 on the first day of October a new Modern Greek style Capitol building was dedicated. The building was designed by Francis Keally of the
Trowbridge & Livingston architectural firm for a total cost of $2.5 million. The exterior of the four story building is faced with marble from Vermont. The building and the grounds are filled with wonderful pieces of artwork and statues. A virtual tour of the facility and its art are available at the Oregon Blue Book
Capitol Tour Web Exhibit. In 1977 an expansion project called the "Wings Project" added underground parking, offices and hearing rooms for $12.5 million.
