This street is named for General Daniel Morgan (1736-1802), Revolutionary War leader whose victory at Cowpens on January 17, 1781, was one of the significant events of that war. Daniel Morgan served as a wagoner on Gen. Braddock’s expedition in 1755. His military service began in the Virginia militia against the Indians. He fought at Quebec and Saratoga before coming south to win his greatest victory against British troops commanded by Col. Banastre Tarleton.
