One of more than 200 replica Statue of Liberty's which were placed in 39
states plus Guam, Puerto Rico, the Canal Zone, and the Philippines between 1949
and 1951. The statues were placed in celebration of the Boy Scouts 40th Anniversary
with the theme “Strengthen the Arm of Liberty,” Each of the statues
made of stamped copper, weigh about 290 pounds and stand about 8 1/2 feet tall
with out the base, each total height is different as each is on its own
individually designed base. The campaign to place the statues was the idea of
Kansas City Scout volunteer, Jack Whitaker. The statues were ordered from the
Kansas City Scout office, they were manufactured by Friedley-Voshardt in Chicago
and sold for $300 to $350.
This particular statue was dedicated September 15, 1950. Like many others this
particular statue was restored and rededicated in 2005.
