The
following is an excerpt from Missouri: A Guide to the 'Show Me' State,
1941 in the Tour 13 Caledonia section:
The Presbyterian Church, on a hilltop across Goose Creek, is a red-brick
structure with white trim and green shutters, which shows both Gothic and
Classic-Revival influence in its arched windows and entrance and in the frame
cupola breaking the roofline. The church was built about 1872.
The Bellevue Presbyterian Church was originally founded in 1816 as Concord
Presbyterian Church about 1 1/2 miles northeast of Caledonia in vicinity of the
Bellevue Presbyterian Church Cemetery. This was the first Presbyterian Church
west of the Mississippi River. The congregation constructed a log church which
served as their church building until 1839 when the building burned. It was
replaced by a brick building on the same site which served as the church until
the current church building was completed in 1872.
The current building was constructed between 1870 and 1872 and incorporates
both Neoclassical and Gothic Revival styles. The church does not appear to hold
regular services at this time though it is listed as an active church in the
Presbyterian directory.
