Broken Obelisk is a sculpture by the painter, Barnett Newman, created in 1963. The piece features a broken piece of an obelisk, balanced on the tip of a pyramid. It is the largest and best known among Newman's six sculptures.

This piece is one of three versions of Newman's "Broken Obelisk" sculpture that were made. The piece, created in 1963 of cor-ten steel, features a large broken piece of obelisk balanced on the tip of a pyramid.
It is installed at a corner of Red Square near the Suzallo Library at the University of Washington. Another of the sculpture versions is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and the third is located in front of the Rothko Chapel in Houston.
Newman is best know for his color field paintings of the 1950's and 1960's. He is classified as an abstract expressionist, but due to his rejection of expressive brushstrokes, can also be grouped with the "post painterly-expressionists", such as Frank Stella.
