The present Clearfield County Courthouse is a two and one-half story brick building with a square brick tower. Retangular in shape, the courthouse has a gable roof with two large cross gables and smaller hipped roof domers.
The first courthouse of Clearfield County was built in 1814 on this same corner and used 46 years. Due to the need for a larger structure, a new courthouse was built on the same site in 1860. In 1862 a five foot by seventy-five foot addition was added to the rear of the courthouse.
The Clearfield County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1979.
