The General Motors Building, on the SE corner of West Grand and Second Blvds., a 15-story structure faced with limestone, is one of the largest office buildings in the country. It, the nearby Fisher Building, and the New Center Building were designed by Albert Kahn. Automobile sales and other large rooms occupy the ground floor, above which rise four well-lighted wings on both sides of a large transverse corridor. The general style is Italian Renaissance; a Corinthian colonnade adorns the two topmost stories.
--excerpt from Michigan: A Guide to the Wolverine State, 1941
In 1996, the building was renamed Cadillac Place when General Motors moved the operations of its world headquarters across town into the Renaissance Center. Today, this impressive office complex provides a centralized office space for State of Michigan offices that were previously spread across southeast Michigan.
