The English from the National Park handout states:
"There are more than 7,000 caves in Slovenia, but a unique underground gorge and it's many vast chambers make Skocjan caves special. They are a system of 11 interconnected caves, collapse dolines, natural bridges, and sinkholes. Since 1986 they have been under the protection of UNESCO as part of it's world heritage site. The caves lie on the kras from where the technical term "Karst", used all over the world, originates. Once in the cave, one can admire marvellous stalagtities and stalagmites of different colours, stone curtains, and massive gours. The system is essentially marked by the Reka-Velka voda river, which flows through the caves, where it falls into a series of cascades and waterfalls, tumbles down the rocks or comes to rest in small underground lakes. On their banks visitors can enjoy in the reflections of the karst subterranian images on the water surface. A visit with an experienced guide will take you an hour and a half."
We took the tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was about a 3 km walk with lots of up and down. The starting enterance is man made, but at the end of the tour, you exit through a large natural enterance.
The rules of UNESCO do not allow photographs inside the cave.
