This sign marks the original burial spot of Private Elijah Stites. He was a Minute Man of the Revolutionary War, served in the Essex County Militia, and was a member of the first regiment in New Jersey.
He was born in 1758 and died in 1843, he was also buried in Lima, Ohio's first cemetery.
