From the Wisconsin Historical Society web site:
"The Rothschild Pavilion ... was originally built as a terminal end for the local street car run to generate business for the streetcar company "Wausau Street Railway Co." which is today "Wisconsin Public Service. In the first half of the last century the Pavilion was the gathering place for area wide community events and has a 6,000 square foot dance floor supported by 28 railroad car springs set on top of granite stone foundations. This gives the floor bounce or as is often refered to, as a floating dance floor effect believed to be the only one of its kind in the country."
