The current library building was completed in 1941. The library has a small historical collection with works by "famous local and state figures, including Martinez resident John Muir."1
As a child, I was a regular at the Children's Library which was housed in the basement. It was there that I found my all time favorite book, The Curious Little Owl. I loved the book so much, I'm sure I must have badgered my parents into getting it for me. I received it as a Christmas present that year.
For more information about the history of the Library in Martinez, see the on-line tour provided by the Martinez Historical Society (about 1/3 of the way down the page).
