At the loading platform at Edaville and next to the cafeteria that looks like a railroad station is an F-unit type diesel electric locomotive. It was the paint scheme of the "Santa Fe Super-Chief," which was their main passenger service.
I was suspicious, though, whether it was authentic. Sure enough, when I looked it up on the internet, a couple sites said that this was, in fact, a former MBTA commuter line engine that was repainted.
This, from a web site on Railfan.net (
visit link) , describes its history:
"This locomotive started life as Gulf Mobile & Ohio F3A #883. ICG's Paducah, KY shops rebuilt it into an "FP10" in 1979 for Boston area commuter railroad MBTA. Santa Fe never had an F-unit with a four digit road number."
The locomotive is inside the Edaville Amusement area. There are several other displays sprinkled about including steam engines and cabooses. It appears that it is the housing for the cafeteria's generator, as I heard a rumble coming out of it. It couldn't be idling, warming it up to move - it has no where to go, since the tracks for Edaville are 2-foot gauge!
