Until 1979 this grand old building was the focus of county government for Kings County. The Kings County Courthouse, located in what is now known as Courthouse Square, was built in 1896 by William Wilcox in the neo-classical revival style of architecture.
This three story building underwent an expansion in 1914 that continued the original design with a granite faced foundation, yellow brick walls, pressed metal cornices and metal roof spires. The north and south two-tiered porticoes highlight the structure.
Today the building is occupied by several independent businesses that lease space in the historic structure. Tile floors, decorative wood trims and artistic stained glass greet visitors to this treasure. A rose garden and working carousel grace the Courthouse property located in the center of downtown Hanford, California.
