The mark on the stone according to legend is the foot print of Robin Hood.

However there is nothing to link with the legendary character, and the dent in the stone is said to be more likely to have been cause by the wearing down of the stone by a chain securing a drinking cup at its end.
It sits on an old well used route by pilgrims to Whalley Abbey.
