Long Description:History sign on Old Post Office building in Baker City Historic District.
Marker Name: Old Post Office
Marker Text: The Old Post Office building served as Baker City’s post office for 58 years, from completion of construction in 1910 until 1968, when the Post Office relocated to a new Federal Building a block to the south. The building also housed offices of the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
After the federal government sold the building, it remained vacant and unmaintained for more than a decade. The building was restored for law offices in 1982.
The American Renaissance-style building is set on a foundation of granite quarried in Baker County. The terra cotta for the upper floors came from Indiana.
