A poetic memorial to both world wars, situated in the churchyard of St Mary's church in Kirkby Lonsdale. A tall cross rises from the decorative base.
Waymark Code: WM3786

The base from which the cross rises has a slate tablet inset on each side. Three of these contain the names and regiments of those killed in WW1. One side has just 12 names from WW2.
Hard to find an exact date, but the monument appears to have been made at the same time, and so must be after WW2. The entries on the tablets are in two different styles, ie. the WW2 list contains just names, no regiments.
It's an attractive monument in a peaceful setting and has a poem/exultation engraved around the base. It reads:
WHO DIES IF ENGLAND LIVE? WHO STANDS IF FREEDOM FALL?
REMEMBER US AND THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN,
YE THAT LIVE ON MID ENGLISH PASTURES GREEN.
