Atsion Village was formed around a booming iron products mill in the late 1700, early 1800s. When a better grade of iron was found in Pennsylvania in the late 1800s, the economy disappeared here, as well as the village. Now a part of Wharton State Forest, just off 206 in Shamong Township, the old General Store (now a Ranger Station), the mansion (now undergoing renovation, the stable, a church, cemetary and schoolhouse remain.
There are hundreds of miles of roads, old stagecoach roads, that are there to explore. This environmently friendly port-a-pot is available in the back of the field by the horse trailer parking. With it's own solar panel, the recycling toilet uses no water or chemicals. Recycles to what? Judging on the smell in there after a long day, I don't want to know.
Oh, and bring your own paper, having any in there is a miracle in itself.
It's always a good idea to visit this before venturing into the vast unknown...
Location: It is located justt off 206 in Shamong Township, behind the Ranger Station and Mansion
