Just off an old country road there lies a tunnel under a railway leading to an empty overgrown field. This field used to have a farmhouse and a family with a young daughter, who now supposedly haunts the place she died.

One night the farmhouse caught fire, and the young daughter caught fire on her way out of the house. The tunnel, often being filled with a small creek running through it, was where she ran to try and put it out. Screaming in agony trying to douse the flames, she died in the tunnel beneath the railline.
Lighting a match in the tunnel at midnight will evoke the spirit. A scream will fill the air, and a gust of wind will blow the match out.
The tunnel's reputation as "spooky" place was established even more when David Cronenberg used the tunnel as a backdrop in a scene in his film, "The Dead Zone".
The truth about the tunnel is a little less interesting. This tunnel was originally constructed as part of a railline that ran parallel to the welland canal, but was never constructed due to lack of funds. There was never a farmhouse on the hill behind the tunnel, nor was there ever a little girl that died here. Still the legend persists, and people are very adamant about the varying story that resides here.
