Marker Name: An Early Hunting Camp
Marker Text: Long ago, aboriginal hunters camped in rockshelters where they made and repaired tools on seasonal hunting trips. This hunting camp was used as early as 7,000 years ago and more recently 200 years ago.
A cache of tools was found hidden here. A bark-lined storage pit traced to a more recent period of time was also uncovered. This significant discovery helps archaeologist place dates on man’s earliest known activities in the area.
Maintained by the Des Chutes Historical Society, artifacts found here can be seen at their museum in Bend.
