Second Baptist Church built in 1894, is significant for the role it played in the black community of Columbia. Not only was the church a center of religious life but also served as a social and education center for the community.

The brick church has both Romanesque and Gothic features. The bell tower originally was taller but decreased in height at sometime.

The church continues to serve the a predominately African-American congregation.
